Also made for the Mech Warrior pitch
materials, I would not actually color this image
until much later. I do often remark that there
was something captured in the original sketch
which I lost when coloring this image.

Someday I will find and scan that original
sketch but until then, this character remains
one of my favorite pieces for one reason.
Typically, people use the various natural
media features of digital painting programs to
create natural media looks in their digital art. I
set about coloring this piece with the intent
that I use photoshop as closely to natural
paints as possible - for the most part that
meant no undos.

From start to finish, this illustration was
created with two layers - one containing the
original drawing for reference, the other the
color information. Apart from that I only used
one brush style at various sizes and opacity
and the smudge tool.

I think it's an interesting exercise, but would
probably never do it again. In a way forcing
myself to do this was more meditative than
anything. There was no deadline, but there
was also no paint to let dry or consumables to
worry about save electricity.
