An old friend and co-worker of mine once tried to pitch an update
of the Horatio Hornblower series of books. He said he had a read
a quote that Star Trek was basically sold as Horatio Hornblower
in space - so why not do that literally?
This is one of the few spaceships I have ever designed and I also
remember how one executive suggested we change the design
to be more "toy friendly." I really wish I had said "why don't we just
make better toys?"
I love toys - I have had a few made from my designs and cgi
models - each of those was so directly translated from my work
that I have never backed down from that concept.
