jesse mesa toves 2009
______________________________________________________________
For the first time in my life, I have taken an artists
backseat on a project that I wrote. The ComicBook Artist's
Guild (CAG) - basically a comic creator's club I joined in
2008 - was going to publish a graphic novel featuring
public domain works and characters.

In the 5th grade I remembered learning how to sing one
of  the versions of John Henry's story and always thought
it was just another sad song about slavery. As I grew
older the legend of John Henry became something I
wanted to turn into a short film.

When the CAG came along the fit was perfect. Hopefully it
will be published in early 2009. The artowrk and lettering
is very close to final and although it's not perfect I feel very
proud of it - as it is one of the first projects where I
allowed other people to lend their skills to my writing.
