Avengers test pages

When I first came to the United States,
I wanted to get into comics. Other
opportunities came along and I put
away the goal of breaking in but I think
I managed to do some decent tests.
Space Jackers, written and created by Dan Peters

This story - written by an old friend of mine - was just
pure fun. I think I set a rather lofty goal of trying to
emulate Al Williamson with this project and became a
better digital inker fo it. I think it would make one hell
of a regular series.
Ghost, Dark Horse submission test

After a few years I tried to break into
the comics mainstream once again.
And once again put aside that effort
as other opportunities came along.
This was one of my better efforts - a
few years of developing skills and
experience can do that.
Four Panes, 24 hour Comics Challenge

This was my second effort at the 24 hr comics
challenge. But I still feel it is my most complete effort. I
would feel perfectly comfortable publishing this and
hope that I can someday. No one really guessed the
origin of the main protagonist in the story and that's
just as well - I don't think the lawsuit would be much
fun for anyone.
Pit Fighter, 24 hour Comics Challenge

I once read a comic which featured a completely
visual story - of all things, it was a GI Joe comic that I
read in grade school. No words, just pure visual
storytelling. I encourage every comic artist or even
writers to try this. It's a real treat when people can
follow what's happening and just run with the imagery.
The Replacement, 24 hour Comics Challenge

This was one of those "bit off more than I could chew"
moments. This story was truly sprawling and
completely ripping off Blade Runner for visual style
and certain noir-like themes. Of the various 24 hr
comics, this established the characters and themes I
would return to in future projects.
Zombie Noir, 24 hour Comics Challenge

Like The Replacement, this comic features a
caricature of myself as lead character. Before anyone
thinks that I am actually like this person, I need to
explain the simple reasons why this character returns
in my work. First, the best reference for any artist is
what you have readily available and I am often my
nearest model. Secondly I like drawing suits - I just
don't like wearing them.

Trouble, Guts & Noir

Further down the page you can see the raw forms of both of these self published comics.
There are some differences in panels here and there - perspective, details and such added
with the additional production time I spent after each year's challenge. The third part of this
series will be available for sale in 2011.
